Taqueria La Fondita #2

Taqueria La Fondita #2
9811 15th Ave SW
Seattle, WA 98106

Health Report: Pristine (although it has a different address, so who knows?)
Open: 10 - 11

Taqueria La Fondita #2 is one of my new favorite trucks in Seattle. Situated on a patch of exposed concrete in the heart of White Center, prices at #2 (and portions) are slightly higher than at other trucks in the area. The standards (tacos, mulitas, sopitos, etc.) abound and are served with the full compliment of fixin's. Usually I prefer a selection of the appetizers instead of the full meal plates at Seattle area taco trucks, but the full plates looked excellent here - I'll have to go back to try them.

Typically you can grab some radishes with your meal, but #2 serves up carrots, radishes and wonderful whole fried onions. You can feel like you're in a toasty oven under the heat lamps on cool evenings.

This truck served free food with a suggested donation for a full day after Hurricane Katrina. All of the proceeds went to the Red Cross. The employees volunteered their time and the owner donated all the food.

The pork (carnitas) tacos and mulitas are great

Tacos and meals come with tasty extras

The $1 special is limited in scope

The full menu is a little tough to read

We have a few of these in Olympia too. I grew up in Southern California where eating at one of these sorts of mobile restaurants was a regular event. They make me feel all nostalgic.

I've been eating at this truck for about 4 years and love it. The lingua (tongue, definitely an acquired taste!) is so tender and flavorful... And I dig that they roast their chilies that they serve on the side - just brings out the sweetness and roasty goodness of the jalapenos, mmmm...

I went to Taqueria La Fondita for dinner on 12/9/07 and ordered the beef quesadilla and a drink. Upon filling my drink I noticed rodent droppings on the top surface of the soda dispenser. This was a hige red flag for me to contine eating the meal. I recieved the meal and it smelled strongly of some household cleaner. I mistakenly continued to eat the 1/3rd of the meal and became nauseous. I complained to the waitress. She stated they would clean the grill, "Again?" and give me back my money. I recieved my $ back and called Washington Poison control center hotline. The staff at Taqueria La Fondita at 20629 Hwy 99 in Lynnwood, Wa. stated that they were just cleaning the bathroom floors, countertops, and grill with "Pine Sol". Poison Control Hotline said that I was not in any immediate danger from the residues from the grill that transferred onto my food via the counters or grill. I returned the following day to speak with the owner, Oscar Brambilla Guzman to complain. He was very rude and laughed when I told him I became ill from eating in his resturaunt. He was too short to look at the rodent droppings on his beverage dispenser and didn't care that Snohomish County Heath Inspectors were on their way to inspect his facility. I would rate this resturaunt a "Steer Clear" resturaunt, unless you enjoy the flavors of rodent droppings and pine sol in your food.
